Last year's Eredivisie top scorer Afonso Alves has been named Dutch Player Of The Year, beating competition from PSV's pair Philippe Cocu and Alex.
Afonso Alves is the only player of the three which remained in Netherlands, even though 26-year old Brazilian star received several tempting offers from England and Spain. PSV's pair Philippe Cocu and Alex who came second and third respectively, departed PSV this summer, after Cocu agreed on a switch on United Arab Emirates and Alex completed his move to Chelsea.
26-year old Alves was in stunning form last term scoring 34 goals in 31 matches to help Heerenveen reach qualification to the Uefa Cup.
PSV's midfielder Ibrahim Afellay received Johan Cruyff's award for Young Player Of The Year, while Dutch U-21 national team and Gus Hiddink were awarded in the Best Team Of The Year and lifetime achievement awards respectively.
