Outgoing Spain national team coach Luis Aragones says that he decided not to continue with the job because he felt that he was not wanted.
Aragones took over from Inaki Saez after Euro 2004 and guided Spain to Euro 2008 triumph in what was the nation’s first successful international campaign in 44 years. But he decided not to renew his contract and has now told that he felt that he was not wanted by the Spanish football federation, the RFEF.
Aragones told the Madrid based Spanish sports daily Marca:
"I don't accept those that say I wanted to leave. I admit I said everyone had a sell by date because there was no movement (from them.
"The Federation did not want me as coach. If they had wanted me they wouldn't have spoken to another while I was still working."
