Apertura 2007: round 8 scores and scorers

Published: 13 September 2007
by Sam Kelly

Boca returned to the top on Wednesday with an easy win at home against Olimpo. The previous day, Tigre and Independiente had kept the pressure on them, going top one after the other by, respectively, drawing with Newell’s and beating Huracán.

River played magnificently on Sunday, so naturally were back to being rubbish on Wednesday, and Vélez recovered from that spanking with a good result against Estudiantes. The torrential rain on Wednesday claimed one match, Gimnasia - Colón having to be called off midway through the first half. And then Lanús and San Lorenzo served up a real goalfest, last thing on Wednesday night.

Primera División Torneo Apertura 2007, eighth round:
Tigre (L. Lázzaro 3, 83) 2 - 2 Newell’s Old Boys (S. Salcedo 20; R. Schiavi 45+3)

Rosario Central (G. Belloso 51) 1 - 1 Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy (H. Silva 73)

Argentinos Juniors (A. Pereira 79; M. Cabrera 84) 2 - 0 Banfield
Independiente (I. Sosa 28; G. Denis 30, 71) 3 - 0 Huracán

Arsenal de Sarandí (A. Matellán 54; J. Gandolfi 90) 2 - 1 River Plate (M. Rubén 24)

San Martín de San Juan 0 - 2 Racing Club (C. López 83; S. Malano 89)

Vélez Sársfield (G. Balvorín 6) 1 - 0 Estudiantes de La Plata
Boca Juniors (R. Palacio 8; M. Palermo 85) 2 - 0 Olimpo de Bahía Blanca (M. Villavicencio OFF 74)

Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata vs. Colón de Santa Fé called off in 23rd minute, with the score at 0-0.

Lanús (J. Sand 34; D. Valeri 38; L. Acosta 43; A. Pelletieri 67) 4 - 3 San Lorenzo de Almagro (B. Romeo 46, 84; A. González 76)

Independiente currently lead the standings, with 16 points. Boca have the same tally. Vélez are third, on 15, Lanús and Tigre have 14 each. The bottom of the table sees Central still searching for their first win, with just 4 points; Olimpo are nineteenth on 5; Gimnasia de Jujuy and defending champions San Lorenzo both have 8, and Huracán are 16th, on 9.
