Chelsea announced the transfer of Dutch winger Arjen Robben to Real Madrid in a transfer deal worth approximately 36 million euros.
The 23-year-old winger has finally landed at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he will team up with fellow countrymen Wesley Sneijder, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Royston Drenthe. The transfer is still pending on Robben passing the medical test and agreeing to personal terms on a five-year deal. Robben's capture brings Real Madrid's offseason transfer tally to a staggering 110 million euros, which makes the Spanish giants the biggest spenders in Europe this summer.
Robben has been at Chelsea since 2004, scoring 19 goals in 104 appearances at Stamford Bridge. His place in the first team was jeopardized following a breakdown in relations with coach Jose Mourinho and the arrival of Florent Malouda several weeks ago.
It has been a busy spell for Real Madrid, which also completed the transfer of Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze earlier in the day. The unsettled Manchester United left-back is moving to Spain in a deal worth 12 million euros.
