Scottish side Falkirk have secured the services of ex-Barcelona B captain Arnau Riera from Sunderland on a season-long loan.
The 25-year old midfielder had impressed on the club's pre-season tour to Holland and was rewarded with the chance for regular first-team football in the SPL. After beginning his career at Real Mallorca's youth team, Arnau was snapped up by Barcelona B and went on to captain the team to their title success of 2000, even being Lionel Messi's skipper in 2004/2005.
However, he was unable to break into the first team despite appearances in friendly matches and was shipped off to Sunderland in 2006, though managed to make just one appearance all season, prompting the Black Cats to offload him to Southend on loan.
Riera has since failed to impose himself in Sunderland's first team and has been allowed to join Falkirk in the Scottish Premier League for a season.
Falkirk manager John Hughes was happy with the signing: "Arnau is a fantastic footballer and I am delighted to have secured his signature" he continued to say "it goes without saying that you don't spend five years at the Nou Camp if you can't play".
