La Liga champions Real Madrid have finally confirmed German Bernd Schuster as the new manager of the club.
As expected Real Madrid finalized a move for the 47-year-old German Bernd Schuster, who spent two seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu during his illustrious playing career in the Spanish Primera Division. Schuster successfully coached Getafe the last two seasons and has been a firm favourite to land the job following Fabio Capello's departure: "Today we begin down a new road and during this second year we intend for Real Madrid to be a team that we can all be proud of. We have faith that he will build a team that reaches excellence in the way it plays," said club president Ramon Calderon at a news conference.
Schuster confirmed that he had to buy himself out at Getafe for 480.000 euros, but the German believes that it is a small price to pay for the opportunity to coach one of the world's biggest clubs.
"From the day you begin thinking about coaching, you dream about triumphing with a great club, and there are three or four of them in the world, Real Madrid being one of them," Schuster said.
The former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid star coached in Ukraine and Germany prior to moving to Spain, where he took charge at Segunda Division side Xerez before moving to Getafe. Schuster has already announced a fresh approach at the club and has already requested that club do not sell Brazilian right back Cicinho, who rarely figured in first team plans during Capello's reign.
