Premier League side Blackburn Rovers have won the race to sign the best scorer of recent Uefa U-21 Championships Maceo Rigters from NAC Breda.
23-year Dutch forward scored four goals in the tournament and helped Netherlands retain the title for the second time in a row. NAC Breda striker had been linked with a host of Premiership clubs including Newcastle and Bolton, while he was also tracked by both both Glasgow giants. Rigters signed a four-year contract at Ewood Park for an undisclosed fee: "We've been following him for some time after manager Mark Hughes identified him as a player he was interested in," Rovers chairman John Williams said.
Rovers have also made a surprise swoop for Faroe Islands U-21 goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen who is joining the Premiership side from Danish club Fram.
