Bojan Krkic – the Serbo-Spanish “wunderkind”

Published: 05 May 2006
by Igor Krstic

A 15 year old boy with astonishing technical and scoring abilities chose to play for the Spanish U17 selection over the one from Serbia & Montenegro. Due to a double passport (he is the son of a Serbian father and a Spanish mother), the upcoming F.C. Barcelona star now celebrates with his fellow Spanish team-mates one goal after another in the U17 European championships, which is held currently (3rd – 14th May) in Luxemburg. The youngest participant of the tournament leads already the scorer list with 4 goals: 3 against Luxemburg and 1 today against Russia.

Bojan Krkic senior - Former Crvena zvezda player

Bojan Krkic was born in Linyola (Lleida) on August 28, 1990. His father, who holds the same name, was a well known footballer in Serbia, where he played for Crvena zvezda during the 1980’s, but without managing to become a regular at the Belgrade giant. After having a spell with OFK Belgade, he switched to a Spanish Second Division club. Bojan Krkic senior ended then his professional career in 1989, opening a football youth school in Lleida, shortly before his talented son was born. He is now a scout for the Catalonian giant F.C. Barcelona, where he observes the French and Italian player market for talents since 4 years.

Bojan Krkic junior - Catalonian "wunderkind"
The father can be very proud of his son, who is already tipped to be the “new Messi” in Spain. The Spanish press, who calls him “Bojan Krkic-Perez”, due to his Catalonian mother, celebrates the little boy already as a “wunderkind”. Bojan has all the necessary skills to stand out among his fellow youth team-mates in the Spanish U17 selection. In the 2nd round game of the U17 European Championships today against Russia, he was brought into the game in the second half, when the result was 0:0. He quickly turned the result into a clear 3:0 victory for Spain, after scoring one and assisting 2 with a terrific solo and a deflected 20 metres free kick.

Spanish or Serbo-Montenegrin selection?
Whether the amazing talent will continue to play for the Spanish national selections is a matter of doubt though. Krkic senior recently revealed in an interview with the Serbian newspaper Kurir, that he will leave the decision open, until time comes: “My relatives were very pleased, when they heard, that the Serbo-Montenegrin Football Association offered my son to play for their U17 selection. Nevertheless, as Bojan already played for Spain, we were brought here on the edge of a crossroad to make an important decision. But however this story continues, Bojan will chose the colours of his national selection by the age of 21. So, for a serious decision there is still enough time left.”

Comment chris (15. June 2008)

He was born in Spain and that makes him a spaniard, He grew up in spain, was educated in spain, lives in spain, and was taught how to play footbal in spain. If he was to play for serbia i think it would be a HUGE slap in the face and this is coming from an american who has dual citizenship to another country and i would not dream to play for another team but the us since i was born and raised here

Messi is the best player in the world at the moment but if he doesn't suffer any serious injury's then in my opinion i believe Bojan will become a better player then Messi!! He should Stay with Spain. Sorry Serbia but i think he has a better chance of showing of his talents In the world cup if he plays for Spain!
