Former Slovenia national team coach Bojan Prašnikar has been appointed at troubled Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus.
Slovenian coach has been chosen to take over at troubled German side, which is currently at the bottom of Bundesliga standings with only 2 points from first seven matches. Prašnikar, who lead Slovenia to the playoff clashes against Croatia for EURO 2004 qualifications, has been considered as one of the most successful coaches in Slovenia over recent period, while his biggest career achievement remains in 1999 when he took Maribor to the Champions League and notched Slovenia's first ever participation in the competition.
Prašnikar, who has also been dealing with accusations of money-laundering and taking bribes in recent months, is a fluent German speaker and said he was eager for a challenge in one of Europe's finest championships: "Bundesliga in one of the most competitive championships in the world. I followed German football since I was a kid and I'm looking forward to take on this challenge," said Prašnikar.
Prašnikar has won the case on civil court which accused him of taking bribery to field two players during his time at NK Maribor.
