Italian football suffered yet another blow after losing out on their EURO 2012 bid. Italian Referees Association (AIA) suspended nine referees and two linesmen for their involvement in the infamous Calciopoli scandal that rocked Italian football.
Match-fixing affair in Italy saw more people charged by the Italian authorities for their involvement in Calciopoli which lead several Italian clubs to be punished with points deducation or demotion as it happend in Juventus case. Public prosecturos in Naples closed their investigations on 12 April by making accusations against the officials. Referees Paolo Bertini, Stefano Cassara, Antonio Dattilo, Marco Gabriele, Gianluca Paparesta, Tiziano Pieri and Salvatore Racalbuto were suspended, added by two linesmen Marcello Ambrosino and Duccio Baglioni.
Juventus were stripped of their last two league titles and demoted to Serie B while Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina and Reggina "escaped" with point penalties for the beginning of 2006/07 season.
