Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is convinced that selling Brazilian striker Ronaldo to AC Milan was one of the main reasons for winning the title.
Real Madrid sold Ronaldo to AC Milan for €7,5m during the winter break after the player fell out with coach Fabio Capello. The dispute led to Ronaldo leaving Madrid after four seasons while the Spanish club clinched their first title since 2003: "'It was vital that we recovered the habit of hard work and sacrifice and he (Ronaldo) didn't collaborate. I've enjoyed watching him, but we had to change the atmosphere in the dressing room and he wasn't helping." Calderon was asked by Spanish daily El Pais how much the decision to sell the Brazilian striker influenced Real's victory in the title race.
Both main actors of the dispute, Capello and Ronaldo, have now been forced to leave the club, as the coach Capello was sacked only 11 days after clinching the Liga title.
