New England boss starts his job with a win. England beat Switzerland with a 2:1 (1:0) at Wembley.
The english players didn't look any better as they did in the Euro 2008 qualification campaign. But it's important to win - and they have succeeded in doing this.
A big contribution to this was made by Jermaine Jenas's goal in the just before the half-time in which England rather desperately tried against the Swiss.
In the 56. minute Eren Derdiyok equalized only to see Shaun Wright-Phillips score a winner only two minutes later.
For the last of the game England defended with all their men and for the last 10 minutes just clearing the ball out of their penalty box to secure a win against one of the Euro 2008 home nations.
Statistically England was better with 18(8) shots against Swiss's 8(4).
Fabio Capello statement after the game for Skysports: ""We played some good football in places and created a lot of goalscoring chances which unfortunately we didn't take and defensively we have played solidly. The last ten minutes again we didn't play football as we were concerned about the result."
Capello surprised with his starting line-up which was composed with the likes of Wes Brown, Matthew Upson and David Bentley otherwise unacostumed to that kind of status in the national side.
