Mourinho predicts a quiet summer

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Blues will be outspent this summer by Premiership rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Chelsea mega-spending policy appears to come to an end as Jose Mourinho announced that he expects a significant change this summer. Mourinho has signed Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro, Reading's midfielder Steve Sidwell and Israeli defender Tal Ben Ham and is reportedly tracking Blackburn's top scorer Benny McCarthy, with whome he already obtained a successful partnership at Portuguese giants Porto. "The Special One" is convinced that Chelsea's main Premiership rivals will be much more active on the transfer market this summer: "The spenders will be Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and maybe Arsenal. It won't be Chelsea for sure.", he told Chelsea magazine.

Mourinho believes that more modest transfer policy will pile off the pressure the club had to deal with it in recent years: "People ask Chelsea, 'Last season you won two trophies, why did you not win four?' But not many journalists ask Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, 'Why zero?' And not many people ask Manchester United, 'Why only the Premiership?' Is it about money? If it is, I hope that next season the media put pressure on the big spenders because the big spenders, for sure, will not be Chelsea."
