Chivas to branch out to South Korea

The owner of Mexican club Chivas Guadalajara Jorge Vergara wants to extend the Chivas trademark to South Korea and create a franchise called Chivas Korea.

Jorge Vergara, the enterprising owner of Mexican outfit Chivas Guadalajara, has already formed a franchise of the club in the USA and is now considering branching out into the always-tempting Asian market. Vergara's attempts to buy Spanish Segunda Division club Malaga CF collapsed, but as one door closed Vergara was already knocking on new ones: "We had talks with Korean entrepreneurs who addressed us to inquire about our expansion plans, our policy and our philosophy. We will surely restore the negotiations as I'm about to receive their concrete proposal of all advantages and disadvantages the Asian market could bring to this club," said vice-president of Chivas Nestor de la Torre.

Chivas already owns a franchise in USA in a club called Chivas USA, which currently occupies 3rd spot in MLS's Western conference. Jorge Vergara also made several attempts to enter Spanish football including his proposed takeover of Madrid giants Atletico Madrid during their stay in Segunda Division.
