Racing Santander accelerated the transfer activities on the last of the transfer window on Friday and made a surprise swoop for highly-rated American defender Danny Szetela from Columbus Crew.
20-year Szetela, who impressed during Fifa's U-20 World Championships, has been tracked by several English clubs including Newcastle United, but instead made a surprise switch to La Liga side Racing Santander where he is expected to bolster the right-back position. Szetela, who opted to play for USA despite Polish descent, signed a two-year contract with the Spanish club for an undisclosed fee.
Racing Santader also completed the signing of Anderlecht's DR Congo striker Mohammed Tchite, who finished last season in Belgium as Anderlecht's top scorer with 20 goals. Tchite is expected to form an interesting partnership upfront with Pole Ebi Smolarek, as the pair is expected to fill the void left by the departure of last year's top scorer Nikola Žigić.
