Portuguese media reports that Benfica are to complete a swoop for Real Salt Lake's highly-rated forward Freddy Adu.
Benfica have money to spend following Simao's €20m transfer to Liga giants Atletico Madrid and have already bolstered their ranks with Argentine pair Angel Di Maria and Andres Dias from Rosario Central. The two-time European champions are set to hold talks with Adu after reportedly agreeing on a 2 million euros deal with the MLS club. Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira confirmed the stories and assured that the talks are ongoing, although Portuguese officials have yet to convince the youngster, who reportedly prefers a move to England or Scotland: "I don't want to rush my decision, because it's my life. It's a very important decision and I want to take my time in making that decision. I'm just letting my agent talk to them and just work out the logistics and take care of that end of it," Adu told the Salt Lake Tribune.
