French Professional Football League overturned Guy Roux's contract with Lens, after the comission decided that 68-year old coach is too old for the job.
68-year old returned to the French football few weeks ago when he signed a two-year contract with Lens, but the LFP declared that the contract is invalid by their comission because Roux is aged over 65, which represents the age limit allowed by the professional football charter. Roux was in charge at Ligue 1 side Auxerre for record-breaking 43 years and seemed to have retired from the game in 2004 when he made way for his successor Jacques Santini. Roux, however, seemed eager to take a restart to his coaching career at Lens, but the laws in French sport forced LFP to cancel his contract: " I'd been warned that the legal commission is a body whose bible is the football charter and who work bizarrely outside the law. I knew at this stage it would be no. So we'll see what happens," Roux said.
Roux is a popular figure in French football since many credit him for an amazing stint at Auxerre, whome he had taken out of French fourth division to win the title in 1996 along with four French Cup triumphs in 1993, 1996, 2003 and 2005.
Lens president Gervais Martel confirmed that the club will appeal against the ban.
