He might have accomplished some incredible things with Valencia, who are now struggling without him, and might have led a not-so-great Liverpool squad to the summit of European club football, but now that the results have commenced to dry up, everyone is out to get him.
When Rafael Benitez won the Holy Grail of European football, the UEFA Champions League, with the Reds in 2005, the Liverpool fans willingly ignored his inability to crack the English Premiership nut. They attributed his failure to raise the Liverpool above the customary level of the much-wanted fourth place in the table to a paucity of funds and inexperience in the English game. But three years down the line and the flow of forgiveness has already been checked.
Before the international break in October, Rafael Benitez's Liverpool were comfortably placed at the top of the pile in the Premiership and summer's inflow of cash inevitably resulting in new and expensive foreign imports had ushered in a massive chunk of optimism. Among the heavyweights in European club football, Liverpool hold the dubious record of not winning the domestic title for the longest period (17 years, in fact) but a truly excellent start to the Premiership season, one that was the best under Rafa Benitez, forced optimism and tangible dreams to the hearts of the Anfield faithful. Now there was a genuine chance that Liverpool would break the 17-year old domestic duck.
Although it would be hard to deny that the chances of winning the English Premier League this season have eloped out of the window leaving its dirty, stained underwear behind, it is obvious to even a blindman that water is already flowing under the bridge. A glance at the League table won't propel you to hit the panic button: after all, Liverpool lie 5 th and 6 points off the pace with a game in hand and have yet to lose a domestic match this season. But the cliché "Lies, damn lies and statistics" crawl into the equation when one watches the videos of the games that Rafa's men been involved in recently.
Bihar Jujurad (28. March 2008)abshankul murundal bhapu gugolo hangu pupåu bobonko gmau!!
eric ho hy (28. December 2007)you guys know nuts!
irish red (14. November 2007)stupid ... get back to old trafford
metyktire (14. November 2007)RA RA RA RA RA RA RA RA RA rafa benitez!!!!
With him i fear no one! Just remember what he did to grat barca for example... Poor article! And my answer is at least as long as sir Alex at ManU!
jimmyjones (14. November 2007)You sir are an idiot. Rafa is building a great team behind the scenes and liverpool remain unbeaten in the premier league. A run of poor form and the head hunters are out!! I hope your not a liverpool fan
JC (14. November 2007)Rafa knows what he is doing man !!!....He will lead us to the top were we can pi$$ all over the others !!
Dickie (14. November 2007)Some interesting opinions and occasional hard facts. The thing I keep wondering with all of this "Rafa to go" speculation is exactly who is expected to come in and take over. If they gave Mourinho the job, then Liverpool **may** be getting a manager more capable of winning the League, but other than that, I don't know who is going to come in and make a real difference (although I guess there is always Sven!).
It will be interesting to monitor the progress of Ramos at Spurs. I seriously doubt he is going to have the effect that the hype would suggest. Trouble with all of this speculation that the grass will be greener with someone else in charge - much of the time it makes little or no difference.
Onion (13. November 2007)How dare you speak about our Manager like this. I bet you would make a great manager. Idiot.
Mike (13. November 2007)You write well but your article is full of opinions and not facts. Rafa rarely changes the formation - in fact he has two tried and tested 4-4-2 and 4-4-1-1, hardly a recipe for confusing the players. Rotation is to keep players fresh, ALL the top clubs in Europe do it (did you not know that). Check the stats.
As for slagging a team off that hasn't peaked yet and the end of the season is in May - what kind of internet journalist fool would do that?
Also, think of the injuries to key players.
In all, next time think before you start talking rubbish.
arse (13. November 2007)hole.
Prabal (13. November 2007)Load of bull, you clueless moron. Why don't you research facts before writing shit like this? Do you know what biased sampling means? Do you know what assumptions mean? Do you know what cliche means? Do you know what rhetoric means? You are full of all that and this is pathetic. 13 games into the season, 6 points off Man U with a game in hand, and you think we can give up on the League? Fuck off.
voice of the nation (13. November 2007)Why waste your time writing all that RUBBISH!!????
FACT : 2 x chp league finals - 1 won.
2 consecutive 3rd place prem finishes.
Highest points tally since prem began for LFC.
clean sheet records / unbeaten run records etc etc
1 x fa cup win.
- NOT BAD IN 3 YEARS EH !!??
...anyone who thinks Liverpool have not got one of the best managers in the world today are on another planet!!
LIVERPOOL FC ARE IN A GREAT POSITION TO WIN MANY MORE TROPHIES IN THE COMING YEARS, WHETHER THAT INCLUDES THE PREMIERSHIP TITLE KNOWONE KNOWS, BUT RAFA COULD AND SHOULD BE AT THE HELM FOR MANY MANY YEARS, AND THATS WHAT MAN U, CHELSEA AND ARSENAL FANS KNOW, AND CANT STAND.
FERGIE WILL GO SOON , THE SPECIAL ONE WENT AND WENGER HAS AKREADY HAD HIS GLORY.
RAFA WILL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH. BELEIVE IT.
Steven (13. November 2007)There are a lot of comments about where the writer is from. What has that got to do with anything? His writing style is fairly 'different' and the content isn't that great, but at least he has tried. Most of the people who have replied can't even spell 50 words!!! Leave the racist remarks out and try to explain why you don't agree with the piece...
Rdun (13. November 2007)Does the feedback to your article suggest that Rafa has lost the support of liverpool fans Mr Mondal? I would suggest not.
Rdun (13. November 2007)Where is this drivel coming from? Why is the media hounding Rafa? Why is the writer prepared to spend valuable time making himself look so f***ing stupid? So many questions and so few answers.
karim (13. November 2007)WHat are you an evertonian???
Derrick76 (13. November 2007)I dont expect liverpool to win the league this season but at least not more than 8pts behind the league leader. Try judging rafa next season.
Derrick76 (13. November 2007)Get ur facts right and dont rely on the media, most of them talk shit. Rafa is the man for us, his record at liverpool speaks for itself.
Z Kay (13. November 2007)17 years without the title, Rafa has rotated himself out of the title,
You are loking at the whle situation very one dimensional. The domination of the english league is something that occurs in cycles. Liverpool had their cycle, and now united are in the cycle. Why does nobody ever bring up the fact that man United Waited close to thirty years to win the title from 1969? And it took Ferguson 6 years before he landed the title. Dont be short sighted, The anfield Heirachy dont want to win only one Title, they want to dominate. To dominate you cannot build a team overnight.
liverpool legend (13. November 2007)are you smoking some boem son. that must be the most creative peace of crap ive read all day. by the way do they play football in Pakistan????
tera BAAP =your DAD (13. November 2007)nice bit of copy and paste and editing this article ive read this before you are not the original writer of this article
LFCKASH (13. November 2007)"Now, LFCKASH, if you had not been blinded by absurd self-congratulations, you would have realised that the writer does acknowledge the importance of statistics but at the same time, he asks you to read into the match displays of Liverpool. After all, Liverpool are not as enteraning as Man United or Arsenal and if you say that they are, then you need some fast help, mate!"
LIVERPOOL, Read my post again and you'll se that I did acknoledge the fact that we haven't been playing great. That was the whole point of my post. We are not playing well at the mo but we are still in there with a shout. Once we get our form back and all the injuries have cleared up, we will be back to playing the way LFC of old used to play and that is what will make the difference this season. I think your the one who needs to check your facts and read the full post, understand what is written and then make a comment that actually makes sesnse!
And the bit you highlighted was about rotation and not about our playing style.

Daniel Johnson (13. November 2007)When will muppetts like you stop wrighting this crap- Man u waited 32 years before they won the league so your stats dont add up- and have you ever played football.
Before you put anythink down about Liverpool look in to it you make your self look foolish. and anyway your just like all teh johnny foriegners first to show your disaproval when things are not going as well as expected - the song says you will never walk alone- long live true red scousers
Kop Mad! (13. November 2007)hahahaha! .. RAFA will be in in Liverpool longer than Fergie has been to maure .... and by the way, why dont you stick to hockey?
L15 (13. November 2007)longer then you'll be writing articles on topics you clearly know nothing about.Anyway who's your local team son ? Why not talk about them
ginge_lfc (13. November 2007)zzzzzzzzzzz same old same old this debate is almost as boring as where steven gerrard should play!how can rafa be under threat?its only a small idiotic percentage of fans who call for his head but when the results improve they are supporting him again. the man is a genius, the most astute manager in the world, not everyone can mastermind victories over barcelona, chelsea milan juventus just to name a few.
Subhankar Mondal clearly does not have a great football knowledge, the article looks as if it has been copied and pasted out of various other newspapers from the last month or so.
maybe u r a manc or a chelsea rent boy? jealous of liverpools up and coming reputation, we havent played well this season yet we r 6points from the top, unbeaten, game in hand, we will qualify from the champions league believe me, and advance into the last 16 - not the quarter finals as u quoted - yet. we r in the carling cup quarter finals and who better to play than chelsea, we beat them every time in the cups anyway. i hope you read this blog Mr Subhankar Mondal and realise how pathetic and boring ur article is, and you might as well tell all ur colleagues that they can try and put as much pressure as they want on rafa but the man is bomb-proof so good luck.
once again zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Bouncer (13. November 2007)Stick to Kibbadi feller - you have the most pompous writing style ive ever seen - to bored to get to the 3rd page based on delivery and percentage of crap write. And why do all the nancy "journalists" insist on letting us see how ugly they are these days - if you wanna be a celebrity just shag a footballer!
Sandy (13. November 2007)Oh, should Liverpool lose to Porto in their next match and Rafa fails to win the next three Premiership games, maybe the Spaniard could be heading out of Anfield.
Liverpool (13. November 2007)"Now that statistic has just blown your whole argument about rotation out the window hasn't it???!!!"
Now, LFCKASH, if you had not been blinded by absurd self-congratulations, you would have realised that the writer does acknowledge the importance of statistics but at the same time, he asks you to read into the match displays of Liverpool. After all, Liverpool are not as enteraning as Man United or Arsenal and if you say that they are, then you need some fast help, mate!
Certainly not a great piece of writing since it doesn' add anything much to what the fans don't really know, but maybe some of the idiots here need to have given more credit to the writer.
But the writer needs to do more to make himself lovable, that's for sure.
Football lover (13. November 2007)Most of the comments make the article sound so so ludicrious and although I don't deny that it is not anywhere near great, yet some of the points in the article are solid. Also the write-up appears good enough and maybe that someone caled SYE would write something on football and show that he can do better than him. He says that he can write better than the writer when he is 7 years! hehe
Football analyst (13. November 2007)Not the most well reasearched or articles but certainly deserves some respect than most of thse nit-wits have given to him. Just as it is hard to describe a football player on the basis of one game, you cannot adjudge the quality of a football writer on the basis of one write-up. It's better that most of the so-called critics here go and read some of the other articles that the writer has scripted. Maybe that would make then change their opinions.
At the same time, I would ask Subhankar(which is the writer's name and not Sanjay,as Tarmidzi - Torres makes it out) to be more well-researhed and add something extra as well. You certainly need time to develop into a better football analyst.
Steven (13. November 2007)Man Utd went 26 years or something like that without winning the domestic title. Maybe your article isn't the most well researched piece I've read lately but you should at least try to inject something new into the old rotation/rafa in trouble/not playing well idea...
Ken Charmer (13. November 2007)I don't think I have ever read such a poorly analysed and written piece of work. It is as the other comments have made clear appalling. But maybe it was written solely to provoke reaction. It is neither well considered or realistic in its content or conclusions.
Tracyd (13. November 2007)What a complete load of shit.
Dodo (13. November 2007)U R a toss! What a waste of time reading the article, perhaps you can use your so call "intelligent" & time contributing something better to the society rather trying to be a smart ash.
f (13. November 2007)stupid article written by a stupid writer. By the way, hate the way you write.
Tarmidzi - Torres (13. November 2007)I pity u sanjay,(or wthatta-heck ur name is)..its so pity that that u dont know anything bout rotation,Rafa's idea or even the difference between Premiership games and Chmapions League..
i guess 5-8years experience will help you will all these..not just reading or plajurise from others okay..then u can talk football.i will wait for you..i guess thee ppl will be happily waiting as well!
take care sanjay
football (13. November 2007)too many assumptions made. Given Liverpool's track record to stick with the manager for long periods... i doubt it. You just write nonsense to get people to read, dont you?
Donky88 (13. November 2007)You (the writer) should know better than to write an article as uninformed as this and not expect Reds fans to not see it and then to (correctly) deem it the drivel that it is. In words of two syllables - haha.
Torres (13. November 2007)Who's the stupid writer?
sye (13. November 2007)who is this irrelevant asian journalist? does anyone really care what he thinks? i could write better than this at 7 years old.
Liv (13. November 2007)thank you so much
at least, this mega crap is well-organized with your picture next to the title ;)
It helps me know that I should not expect anything worth more than 1 penny :[

how can u be stupid like this :-< incredibly stupid @-)
melbourne red (13. November 2007)as soon as i read the second paragrah, i knew this writer is shite. and i was proven every bit correct.
"Liverpool hold the dubious record of not winning the domestic title for the longest period (17 years, in fact)"
Malaysian Red (13. November 2007)You are right in saying that FT has not yet released his full venom and Babel has been given few chances to start games, but for your information ( in case you have been away for sooo loooong ), these two players are just getting used to the Prem, unlike Banayoun and for some effect Voronin, who had played in the Bundesliga, are used to the physical games that the Prem is. To say that Rafa has been given a long time to revive the Reds, is not correct as this season is the only season he can compete with the like of Chelsea and Manchester United.
To bring many players in the summer who are still getting use to the way the team plays and play the way we are playing is considered very good. Our defense is still the best in the league based on the number of goals we conceded, even when D Agger still out nursing his long term injury... FYI too, we still have DA, XA and JP out injured...so go figure.....for anyone to suggest that Rafa's day are number is really mind boggling to me.
LFC FANATIC (13. November 2007)what a pile of SHITE. It amazes me how poeple like you get jobs in football journalism. do you even know what a football looks like?!?! let alone anything about the game itself. Don't give up your day job
rouman (13. November 2007)lets wait and see, your assessment of l,pool is wrong and time will prove you wrong.
Rotation Man (13. November 2007)It seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry knows more about football than Rafa.
Dungpile (13. November 2007)How long has the writer been a Manure united fan?
Tyler (13. November 2007)I suppose that if Liverpool are out of every competition by Christmas then, yes, Benitez may find his job under fire... just like any other big club's manger would find. Not a very bold prediction.
Although you do boldly begin the death clock on Benitez while he sits undefeated in the Prem... heroism abounds.
LFCKASH (13. November 2007)What a load of cobblers. Do you even know anything about football. For instance, when Fergie, Wenger and Rafa rotated 4 or more players last season, they won the majority of games and MORE games than when they didn't rotate at all. Now that statistic has just blown your whole argument about rotation out the window hasn't it???!!! As for Rafa, He is one of the est in the world and has proved again and again. Sure, we haven't played the best football of late but that has mostly been down to the form of the players rather than Rafa's ability as manager! Add to that the fact that Rafa also lost his number one very early on as well and the injuries to KEY players, then have another look at our position in the league and you'll see that we are doing very very well.
As for Babbel, he is young, in a new country playing for a new team. It takes time to adjust to those things and only very rarely will a player from another country and used to playing a completely different style of football adjusts so quick. Even Torress hasn't quite settled yet even though he is scoring goals. Believe me, you haven't seen nothing of the real Fernando Torress yet. Once he is completely settled, he is going to set the prem alight like no other.
Rafa is the man now will be for years to come. I, like every other fan, want the prem title as soon as possible. Winning it this year would be incredible, and there is every chance we can win it this year, but I would be happy to be challenging till the end this season. I watch 99% of the games and most of those live and at Anfield if at all possible and have done for many years. I understand the 'OLD' LFC way cause I remember it and that is what Rafa is trying to achieve. He, like us fans, wants a dynasty. A long period of domination not only in the prem but also Europe! I also understand that when you buy new players, it takkes time for then to settle and start showing thier best. Needing better Players in certain positions is also a widely believed concept by many fans. I for one will support Rafa and in my humble opinion, he should be given at least another 2 seasons to deliver the Premiership title. He may have had 4 summers of transfer activity, but he has only been able to compete for the best players for only one of those summers.

john q (13. November 2007)daft article,lazy too.
ronin2009 (13. November 2007)what a stupid article, chances for the league gone? best position we been in years for the league and champs league is still in our hands, way am i wasting time on this!! stick to cricket or something as you clearly know F all about football
Howey (13. November 2007)You should know something about football before writing articals about it. Fool.
Liverpool Fan (13. November 2007)Accurate assessment of the season. And, yes, we'll be able to judge better by Christmas.
Kopite (13. November 2007)Absolutely ludicrous article.
