Jaime Moreno sets MLS goalscoring record

Published: 24 August 2007
by Extra Football

Bolivian striker Jaime Moreno scored the 109th goal of his MLS career to set a new mark in the league. He had been tied with previous record-holder Jason Kreis for several months before finally finding the net and the record.

The Bolivian striker hit a penalty in the 48th minute of DC United's 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls, in a match fittingly pairing the only two league clubs he ever played for. Moreno spent an injury-plagued 2003 season with the Big Apple club but the rest of his US career has been in service to the 4-time league champions DC United.

The 33-year-old made a surprise return to the Bolivian national team this year and was one of the better performers on the team in their Copa America run. Although his production has slowed in the last couple yeas as he has aged and turned into more of a provider, he remains one of the key cogs in DC United's team as they push for a league-high fifth title.
