Middlesbrough found a replacement for Australian striker Mark Viduka only few days after his move to Newcastle as Boro strengthened their ranks with Arsenal French striker Jeremie Aliardere.
The Australian rejected to extend his contract with Middlesbrough this summer and instead decided to join Newcastle United, where he became Sam Allardyce's first signing after former Bolton manager took over at St. James Park. Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb confirmed that the move and fee have been agreed "in principle" and that Jeremie Aliardere will arrive at Riverside stadium when he returns from holiday. Agile French forward has been with Arsenal since 16 and had in the mean time loan spells at West Ham United, Celtic and Wolverhampton.
24-year old striker born in Rambouillet made his debut for Gunners against Fulham in 2001/02 season when he replaced Thierry Henry in a 4-1 victory. Since 1999 he only starred in 29 matches in the Premier League and has seen his name on the scoresheets only once – in 2002 home match against West Bromwich Albion. Earlier this season Arsene Wenger allowed him to leave the club, but due to many injuries he was later told to stay at the club until the end of the season. Aliardere was one of the stars in this season's Arsenal impressive run in the League cup, where Gunners reached the final despite fielding reserve players for the majority of the tournament.
