Spanish giants open their quest for the tenth European Cup trophy with an exciting home match against struggling German side Werder Bremen.
Spanish Champions hope to carry over their fantastic domestic form, while their German opponents have seen their Bundesliga campaign start in a dismay following heavy home defeats against Bayern and last weekend's away loss to Borussia Dortmund. Werder have struggled to gain a spot in the CL in a tight clash with Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb, although coach Thomas Schaaf believes CL pedigree will force his team to switch to a higher gear. Real Madrid have openly admitted that 10th European Cup trophy is the only goal for this season, while Spaniards also claim they're ready to restore club's pride in Champions League following several unimpressive matches over last three years.
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster is considering giving a debut to Arjen Robben who recovered from injury and is reportedly ready for the Werder clash. On the other side, Werder are still battling with a long injury list which includes the likes of Torsten Frings and Tim Borowski.
Werder have failed to continue their scoring record this season, which may be also contributed to the departure of star forward Miroslav Klose to Bayern. Brazilian stars Diego and Carlos Alberto are likely to start at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid are to play their 300th European Champions Clubs' Cup fixture.
