3. Nightlife, Food, Drinking
Drinking
Stuttgart has a huge collection of drinking and eating establishments. If you fancy the famous German beer, try out the local "Schwaben Bräu" at one of the city’s beer gardens - especially during hot summer days. The Biergarten in the Schlossgarten, has typically long tables and benches. Another beer garden worth trying is Zum Paulaner on Calwerstrasse. As mentioned above, Stuttgart also hosts a world-famous annual beer festival: the "Cannstatter Volksfest" on the "Cannstatter Wasen" - the Cannstatt Festival is only second in size to the Oktoberfest in Munich.
Food
Amongst local Swabian food specialties, most interesting is "Kässpätzle" (noodles in cheese), "Maultaschen" (similar to Italian Ravioli, but without tomato sauce), "Laugenbrezeln" (a typically Swabian bakery item) and „Rostbraten“ (fried beef slices with lots of sautéd onions, usually served with Sauerkraut, Maultaschen or Spätzle). There shouldnt be any problems in finding some good restaurants with typical Swabian food in the city center. Similarly, there isn't a huge problem in finding excellent foreign food restauraunts in Stuttgart, ranging from Turkish, Greek, Italian, to Indian, Chinese or Japanese. You can find extensive informations on the wide variety of restaurants in Stuttgart here.
Nightlife
The Stuttgart clubbing scene is full of all types of nightclubs, discos, bars, pubs, and dance clubs, all with different themes and and attracting a different clientele. The most busy street on weekends is the notorious Theodor-Heuss-Straße (a parallel street to the main shopping street Königs-Straße). Numerous pubs and clubs line up on that street and end at the so called "Palast der Republik", where hundreds of students and hip youngsters gather outside during summer nights. Before going out at night in Stuttgart you nevertheless should decide what type of place (or places) you'd like to spend time at, and then do some research to find the nightlife venues that are right for you. You can do that for example here.
