Dejan Stefanovic began his career at Serbian giant Crvena zvezda Beograd, from where he was transferred to England for the first time. Sheffield Wednesday took him over in 1995. The stay at Sheffield was not a big success and within half a year the Serb moved on to AC Perugia on a transfer free base. After a 3.5 year stay in Italy, Stefanovic returned to his native country again. He played some months on semi-professional basis for OFK Beograd, when Vitesse Arnhem gave him a call. OFK released his contract and Stefanovic found the joy of playing football once again, after having some rather unfortunate years in Italy. In Holland he became one of the best defenders in the league and was therefore bought by his current club Portsmouth in 2003 for a sum of almost 3 million Euros. During the past years in the Premier League he proofed to be a very reliable and tough English-style defender, who can play as a central defender but also as a left full back.
