Details:
Real Betis were formed on December 8, 1914 by the merger of Sevilla Balompié and Betis FC. The honorary Real title was given at the time of its foundation. The foundation date is disputed and is sometimes given as 1907, the foundation year of Sevilla Balompié. Betis is derived from Baetica, the Roman name for Andalusia, the region of which Seville is the principal city. The stadium is named for the current Real Betis president and was previously known as Heliopolis and Benito Villamarín.
