Derby County were formed as an off-season pursuit by members of Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Merged with Derby Midland Football Club in 1891. The club’s nickname – the Rams – is a reference to The Derby Ram which appears in an old English folksong and is a symbol of the city. Derby County’s glory years in the 1970s were achieved under manager Brian Clough, who went on to even greater success at arch-rival Nottingham Forest. Previous Stadiums: Racecourse Ground (1884-95), Baseball Ground (1895-1997).
