Details:

Newcastle United were founded in November 1881 as Stanley by members of the Stanley Cricket Club. Changed their name to East End in 1882 to avoid confusion with two other local clubs named Stanley. Merged with Rosewood FC in 1882. The club's early rivals were West End. When Newcastle West End disappeared, Newcastle East End changed its name to Newcastle United and moved into West End's old stadium - St. James' Park. The club's emblem is modeled upon that of the city of Newcastle, and also includes the club's black and white colors at its center. St. James' Park was originally a park which gradually evolved into a formal stadium.
