Nürnberg were founded on May 4, 1900 at the Bürenhütte pub by college students who had been playing rugby and wanted to try out football. The stadium is sponsored by a local bank. Its historical name is the Frankenstadion. The only league champion to be relegated the following season. Nürnberg share (with Arminia Bielefeld) the record for most relegations from the Bundesliga.
